My son discovered and loved them, and insisted I give them a go. I did so, but really only to go along with my son, show an interest. But I was knocked out by them! They would be worthwhile even if they just made teenage boys read, but there is so much more to them. Have been a Pratchett fan for years, but always tried to space out my reading.
